Poverty 101 (via Tom Johnson)

My name is Tom Johnson and I’m a Pastor at Covenant Church in West Lafayette. I want to give you a personal invitation to a training event we are hosting in February. My hope is that this training event will enable believers in the Greater Lafayette Community to understand better the mindset of people in generational poverty. But I hope to do more. Please read on.

The training event is titled “Poverty 101” and will be taught by Tim Streett, the assistant director of Shepherd Connection Ministries in Indianapolis–a ministry whose goal is to help people grow out of poverty and into fullness in Christ. Tim, a gifted communicator, has a wealth of wisdom gained in his 20 years of ministering to people trapped in generational poverty.

Covenant’s goal in inviting you (please feel free to invite fellow believers you think would be hungry for this) is to further equip each of us so together we might all be more effective in loving the impoverish in ways that don’t reinforce dependency or diminish dignity.

I hope that you’ll find time in your schedule to attend. In case you can’t open the attached flyer, here is the basic information:
