Christmas Eve 2017 Weekend Schedule

Lafayette Community Church - Sat, 12/23/2017 - 02:37

I’m getting really excited about our Christmas Eve Weekend, so here’s what you need to know.

  • Sunday Morning, 12/24, will be a “normal” Sunday morning with two identical worship gatherings (9am and 10:45am), fully staffed Kidopolis at each, and our youth programming during the 9:00 gathering.
  • Sunday Evening, 12/24, will be our special Christmas Eve celebration from 6-7pm. Kidopolis will be closed, and we will have a family-friendly worship gathering with everyone in the same room. There will be something special for the kids, I’ll bring a brief but encouraging message about having the perfect gift for Christmas, we’ll have abundant hot chocolate and cookies, and Chuck and I have been working for over a month to make this year’s celebration something extra special.

So, just to be clear…

Sunday Morning normal schedule

Sunday Evening special celebration gathering!

I’d love to see you for both the morning and the evening if you can make it.

A Very Cranky Christmas Part 03 :: Peace

Lafayette Community Church - Sun, 12/17/2017 - 16:00

This message was brought to us by a missionary who serves in a sensitive part of the world. To honor his security, we have removed the media from our servers.

Peace on Earth? The Angels promised it to the shepherds, but is that promise real? This week, we are blessed with a message from someone who has real experience with the peace that Jesus brings into a world of strife.

Lafayette Christmas Parade Church Unity Float

We have a fun opportunity this Saturday (12/2/17) to participate in the 2017 Lafayette Christmas Parade with the Greater Lafayette Gospel Association and The Pastors Alliance.

These two organizations have been cooperating in a number of ways over the past year, and we want to finish the year with a display of the unity God is bringing about in our town.

We want you to join us, so here are the details for that:

  1. FLOAT DECORATION: The float is almost finished, but it needs to be decorated with garland and Christmas lights. A group of us will be meeting at the LCC building parking lot at 1pm to put the finishing touches on it. We could use your help, if you want to join us. Also we could use a few last minute items: a power inverter to power the float from the truck’s 12V, garland, tinsel, low-power (LED) or battery-powered Christmas lights.
  2. CHOIR PARTICIPATION: If you can’t help finish the float, we’d still love for you to join us in the choir on the float. We will be able to put 30 people on the float, some will be able to sit, but most will need to stand (holding handrails). If you want to sing, just show up at 4:30pm. However, in the interest of safety, we will not allow children to ride on the float. We didn’t build the float to safely contain kids.
  3. WALKER PARTICIPATION: If you don’t want to sing, we’d still love for you to join us as a walker. In fact, this is the major part of our float. We are hoping for 100 or more people from many local churches to join us as walkers, wearing festive clothing, and passing out candy to kids along the parade route. Feel free to bring your kids in strollers and/or wagons if you want to walk as a family!
  4. WHERE TO MEET: Our float is #48 out of 200, so we will be near the front of the parade. That’s why we especially need to have everyone there before 5pm. Our staging area will be between North Street and Brown Street on 10th Street.
  5. WHAT TO WEAR: The weather is going to be nice but chilly, so dress warmly. Still, this is a parade, so dress in a festive manner! Fun hats are encouraged, but no Santa suits are allowed in the parade.
  6. WHAT TO BRING: If you plan to ride on the float, it would be nice to have some people bring containers of hot chocolate and cups to share. If you plan to be a walker, you should bring a bag or two of candy to pass out to kids as we walk.
  7. WHAT TO AVOID: We are discouraging churches from passing out flyers about their ministries. This is our first time doing something like this, and we want to focus on the unity Christ is bringing to this town more than on promoting our own individual ministries. However, if you want to bring a sign representing your church, that is encouraged.

Finally, the parade begins at 5:30pm and the route goes from 11th Street and Main Street down Main Street to 2nd Street and then up to Ferry Street. We will disembark and disband near 3rd and Ferry, so take that into consideration as you coordinate your parking.

I’m so excited that we get to be part of this. I and a lot of other people have put in a lot of work to make this float happen, so please join us if you can!

Prayer Moves

Lafayette Community Church - Sat, 11/11/2017 - 23:34

What difference could God make in your life? Do you suppose he would take that action if you didn’t ask him to? Do you suppose you can ask him to move in your life without prayer?

Prayer is foundational to everything in our relationship with God. Prayer moves us, prayer moves the heart of God, prayer moves mountains. Join us for this special weekend where we have one goal: to get better at prayer!

Crash Course Part 06 :: Discipleship

Lafayette Community Church - Sun, 11/05/2017 - 16:00

For many churches “discipleship” is the central word of their mission. In this message, we unpack what that really means. Along the way, we learn about another big word: evangelism.
